Every ISK on EVE Exchange is a claim on real ISK held in the platform's in-game corporation wallet. This page compares the actual ISK in that wallet (read live from EVE's ESI API) against the total virtual balances we owe to all users plus any pending withdrawals.
A surplus means the platform is fully backed: it can honour every balance and withdrawal today. We publish this openly because trust in a player-run exchange depends on proof, not promises.
